Dachshund overview
The Dachshund originated in Germany for following badgers and foxes to earth (rabbits in the case of the miniatures). One of Germany's most effective earth dogs, they are also good companions but retain the instinct to hunt.
There are 3 distinct varieties which all come in 2 sizes: the standard smoothhaired Dachshund, the miniature smoothaired Dachshund, the standard wirehaired Dachshund, the miniature wirehaired Dachshund, the standard longhaired Dachshund and the miniature longhaired Dachshund.

Colours, markings and patterns
All colours allowed, but no white permissible, save for a small patch on chest which is permitted but not desirable.
The exception is dappled markings, which should be evenly marked all over.
Nose and nails black in all colours except chocolate/tan and chocolate/dapple, where brown permitted.
